Adult Counselling

Jeff approaches addiction counseling in a contemporary and holistic manner. Historically, the medical-disease model and the 12 step approach was, and still is, the most common strategy to respond to the needs of individual who we having a challenging relationship with substances.

Over the past twenty-five years there have been major developments in the way that both the professional community and our society engages these issues. Jeff has worked with hundreds of men and woman (youth and adults) over the years and has embraced the idea and approach that there are many ways to define and measure wellness. In other words, the one size fits all approach does not fit everyone, and nor should it.

Jeff embraces the idea and value of honoring the people he works with to decide for themselves what works best for them.

He was watched many of his clients find wellness in a variety of ways.

With this approach, he will co-create together with you, a collaboration of ideas and strategies that will help you move forward into a life that gives meaning and add value to the wisdom of your own inner resources.

Jeff presents a variety of options (as there are many) and encourages the consumer of his services to research and explore all of their options.

His role as your counsellor, is to assist you in expanding your awareness and supporting the choices you make to find your own wellness.

His commitment to you is to provide the most up to date knowledge of addiction treatment and options available.

Jeff works from a “meeting you where you are at approach” and assists you to define your own world and relationship to it.

Success is not measured by getting an “A” in your recovery but rather the value is placed on your desire in seeking and ultimately finding your own resolution. Jeff will assist you with taking the steps forward to addressing the challenges and barriers that are impacting your life.

Youth Counselling

Jeff has extensive experience working with youth in several capacities.

He has designed and operated several residential youth resources in Vancouver and has spent many years working with both youth and their families to bridge resolution to the many issues that are brought forward.

Over the course of many years and working with hundreds of at risk youth, he has grown to have a deep understanding of the many challenges todays youth face, especially with substance misuse. Jeff also works in the areas that include, social anxiety, anger issues, stress and depression.

He believes these conversations as are extremely important for young people to have, as it can prevent further disconnect from their friends and family and most importantly, themselves. Substance misuse not only has a profound effect on the youth, but also with the family and everyone that is connected to him or her.

Jeff has a unique gift with engaging young people and has had his own experiences with substances as a youth. He has a deep and personal understanding of this complicated and challenging process.

These similar experiences that Jeff has had in his own life, coupled with his formal training and experience, make his conversations with youth more fluid and engaging. Building an alliance and connecting though mutual relating has proven to be of huge benefit with all the young people he has worked with over the years and this is demonstrated by the young people he has helped resolve many of these issues.


Training and Coaching

Jeff is available to provide clinical supervision, mentorship and coaching to new up and coming counselors. He has extensive experience with the educational requirements and process to obtain international certification with the CACCF – Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation and many other avenues within the learning communities around the world.

He has spent his entire professional career leaning into the ideas of contemporary thinkers in social construction & post-modern ideas.

Jeff believes this type of mentorship has not only enhanced his counseling approaches, but also opened his thinking to many creative & innovative approaches with his work.
